Overview
Our basketball officials will pay dues to both the the statewide Washington Officials Association and to Pacific Northwest Basketball Officials Association (PNBOA).
Here’s an overview of the costs, the collection process and what those dues provide to the member.
Washington Officials Association (WOA) dues
WOA is the governing body for all WIAA sanctioned sports in Washington.
Every official will pay an annual fee of $80 plus $35 for each sport they officiate. So if you officiate only basketball, you will pay $115 fro the 2024-25 season.
These dues are automatically deducted from game payments made via Arbiterpay once you complete the certification process for Basketball. PNBOA has no control over this process.
WOA dues provide you with insurance via the NASO Sports Officials Security program, complimentary admission to WIAA state tournament contests, training, a subscription to Referee magazine and more. NOTE: WOA dues are required for PNBOA members even if they only work Recreation games. We believe that the insurance coverage provided by NASO is critical and thus required for all of our officials.
Background Check requirements
The WOA Certification process includes a background check. Payment required at time of registration for $15 (charged once every 3 years).
PNBOA Member Dues
PNBOA dues help to cover the costs of operating the organization and can vary from year to year.
PNBOA dues are charged annually. For the 2024-25 season PNBOA dues are $60. However 2024-25 dues are waived for first year apprentice officials and all PNBOA Member dues paying members from the 2023-24 season.
Members have the option to have dues deducted from game earnings or to pay via credit card or check before December 1st (or within 2 weeks of your first game if you start working for PNBOA after December 1st).
PNBOA Associate Dues
Because of the volume of games that PNBOA schedules on both the school side and on the youth and adult recreation side, we are able to offer the opportunity to WOA registered basketball officials in other organizations (eg. TBOA, SCCBO) to work games in our coverage area.
When these Associates surpass a threshold of games worked, we require them to pay dues for the benefits they are receiving from PNBOA. These dues are typically half of the full-member dues. For more details on the amount and on the threshold, please review your Associate Service Agreement.
